Believers become Priests of God

Studying the tithe in the old covenant led to the realization that it was God's way of providing for
his priests of the day, the Levites.
Then Peter in the new testament reveals that God's people
under the new covenant are to be like
living stones, built into a spiritual house to be a holy
priesthood.
In Jeremiah, we find that the descendants of David and the Levites will become as
numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore.

We want to look at those things and a passage in Jeremiah where God told him that if he called out
to Him, that God would show him great and mighty things that he did not know.  Also we find that
God is no respecter of persons and these great revelations can be shown to us as well.

First let's read Jeremiah 33:3 NIV,
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and
unsearchable things you do not know.
In the KJV it says great and mighty things.  Wow,
then he goes on to tell of the horrible destruction coming on Judah and Israel and it's eventual
restoration in peace and healing and joy.  It's a powerful passage.

Next we want to look at a passage in Acts 10:34 NIV, Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize
how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him
and do what is right."  In the KJV it says God is not a respecter of persons.  So, laying down a line
of reasoning that God, not being a respecter of persons, then it appears he may just
show us, his
true believers some great and mighty things we don't know, if we call out to him.

In Deuteronomy12:7 NIV, There in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall
eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has
blessed you.  Verse 18, Instead
you are to eat them [the tithe and the offerings] in the
presence of the Lord your God at the place the Lord your God will choose - you, your
sons and daughters
, your menservants and maidservants and the Levites.  Verse 19 Be careful
not to neglect the Levites as long as you live in your land.

Peter sharing in 1Peter 2:4 NIV, As you come to him, the living Stone - rejected by men but chosen
by God and precious to him -
you also, like living stones are being built into a spiritual
house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God
through
Jesus Christ.  Have you ever thought of yourself as a priest of the things of God, or Jesus?  That's a
powerful image isn't it?  You a living stone, part of a spiritual house, offering spiritual sacrifices to
God, not your pastor, Y-O-U, you.

In Romans 2:28 Paul tells us: One is not a Jew who is one outwardly but inwardly.
We believers
are the "spiritual Jews".  We believers are all "spiritual Levites"
, see Jeremiah 33:21, and
we believers are all
"spiritual children of Abraham".  We believers are a "spiritual
priesthood".
