| The Butterfly Story Stephen was prone to painting these life-size butterflies on scraps of watercolor paper, just for practice. He was going to throw them away but his mother had other ideas. She told him how much she liked the butterflies and asked if he would make an arrangement of them for her. He cut them out of their individual scraps, arranged them together on a single sheet, painted shadows, antennae, etc. for each of them, then glued them in place as if this were a painting of a butterfly collection. This painting made wings and now resides in Southern California. |
