| We are just the stewards of the cemetery, and the photos, and the memories, and the old school house / church house. Here are a few mementos that bring us to realize what lives were lived bringing us our lives. We pause to look back and wonder how those lives molded and shaped our own lives. We are thankful for a wonderful heritage. It's the least we can do to keep the memory alive just a little longer, to serve us and our children and grand-children as a revered legacy. This is their story and has become our story, just the same. |
| One of the trustees of the Rogers Mt. Grove Cemetery, Lila King, Little Rock, AR brought this souvenir of the school year to our meeting May 15 2005. It shows the school in existence earlier than had previously been known to any of us. The teacher, the directors, and all the pupils of that year are printed on the small card dated 1897. Thanks Lila for this wonderful find making the roots of our tree just a bit deeper. An authentic link from Mountain Grove School and School District 91 is made on this card. That mirrors the deed from the Rogers family to School District 91 of three acres of land at the school location, see Deed Book 28, Page 269, Logan County Arkansas, in 1925. |
| The Church, a deed from the Rogers Family to the General Public and all religious denominations came to light on a visit to the Logan County Courthouse May 16, 2005. Bruce Dickey found a deed recorded in Deed Book 31, Page 287 in which the church property (2 Acres) is recorded on December 10, 1913, signed by J. W. and A. E. Rogers Above is a survey done by Don Bland Surveyor in Danville AR on March 26, 2001. Sonny Dickey and Osby Rogers deemed a survey would be appropriate of the old deed. The metes and bounds description, using rods, chains, and links match the original deed perfectly. |
| Jimmy Still mailed this photo to Bruce Dickey in about 2000. It belonged to his mother Lydia Dickey Still Whitwell. It shows Lydia and her classmates in the 1912 Liberty School annual class photo. Lydia is the one holding the bell and standing next to her teacher, Mr. Perry Moore. Each student's name she could remember was hand-written in pencil on the reverse side of this photo, you can make out most on the type-written caption. Thanks Jimmy for sending this picture. Lydia is buried in the Rogers Mt. Grove Cemetery, near the old school house church in the picture. Notice the ballpoint inscription on the bottom margin, "My Last School on Huckleberry Mtn." Also in the photo near the top is the identifying chalkboard which states, "Liberty School, Perry Moore" |
| Another photo of Lydia Dickey came into my possession in about 2000. Sent from Jimmy Still in Corpus Christi, Lydia's son. It shows the Liberty School annual class photo from 1916. Unfortunately, there were no names except for the teacher on the reverse side of this photo. I recognize two individuals as being Dickey's, James Isaac and Frank, in front of and to the left of Mr. Cravens. |

| This little logo celebrates the confusion of all the names of Liberty School, Rogers Mt. Grove Cemetery Originally it was known as Mt. Grove School, officially School District 91, about 1897. Later it became Liberty School, by 1912 to 1916. The Rogers family donated 2, then 3 more acres for the school, church, and cemetery. Each name is important and shows the identity at different times. Sonny Dickey who attended school there, said the area was known as the Liberty Community. Thank God they didn't call it the Rogers Mt Grove Liberty School Church Cemetery of Bear Wallow Township Logan County Arkansas. |
